Is 5 Minutes of Meditation a Day Enough?

5 minutes is better than zero. But 7 minutes a day is the minimum dose that allows passing the warm-up phase and reaching real practice.

Overview

5 minutes is better than zero. But there's a more precise answer that will help you decide.

Meditation dosage research consistently shows that frequency matters more than duration. 5 minutes a day, seven days a week, is more effective than 35 minutes once a week. The brain learns through repetition, not through one-time effort.

7-10 minutes is the 'minimum effective dose' found in most reviews. Why not 5? Because 5 minutes doesn't always allow passing through the initial transition phase - the first 2-4 minutes when the body is still in daily-life mode.(Further reading: the first 4 minutes of meditation) When you reach only minute 5, sometimes you're just 'starting to settle'.

5 minutes is enough on one condition: that you complete them in practice, every day. If the choice is between 5 minutes every day and 15 minutes twice a week - choose 5 minutes every day. Without question.

Another important point: as the skill develops, time extends naturally. Most people who start with 5 minutes find that after a few weeks they want more - not because they have to, but because they feel something developing and want to continue.

Practical tip: if 7 minutes seems like too much, start with 3. Open the app, choose the first course in Easy Start, and let the process grow on its own.
